We have created this resource out of our own struggle to feed our large family on one income.

Hi, my name is Amy and just like you, I struggled to feed my family healthy, home cooked meals. Our goal was for me to stay home with our children, which made our budget tight!

I grew up with a mom who cooked from scratch, but I didn’t have a desire at the time to learn how to cook myself. Fast forward several years, I found myself on a tight budget trying to feed my growing family. I learned that pre-packaged, convenience foods were expensive and full of preservatives.

I soon realized that I needed to learn skills to feed my family on a budget! I started by growing a small garden. After many failures, I started to grow vegetables that my family would actually eat.Then my mother in law taught me how to preserve the extra harvest. I will teach you how to do the same!

I also found out that meat is the most expensive part of grocery shopping. My husband raised beef that we filled our freezer with, but I was overwhelmed with all the different cuts of meat and how to make meals out of them. So even if you don’t have your own cattle, you can find a local farmer to buy from. I will help you organize and use all the beef you purchase.

Next came chickens. Not only did I start a flock of laying hens, but I raised meat chickens as well. Once the chickens were in the freezer, I didn’t know how to cut up a whole chicken. After many years of just cooking whole chickens, I finally mastered cutting up a whole chicken, which opened up a world of possibilities to serve the chicken. I don’t want you to wait as long as I did. I will teach you how to cut up a whole chicken!

I am going to be honest with you, I don’t like to meal plan, but I also know that it saves a lot of money when I have a plan. Over the years, I have developed a no nonsense, simple way to plan meals. I will teach you a simple 3 step meal planning system that will save money and feed your family delicious meals.

I have made many mistakes on my journey to self-sufficiency, but I have learned to grow 90% of my protein, and a large portion of our fruits and vegetables. In addition, I have found local sources of food that help me avoid expensive grocery stores. A can-do attitude is one of the keys to success. Knowing that you will make mistakes along the way, I will be your biggest cheerleader to help you gain more self-sufficiency, one step at a time.

DAY 4

Plan a menu - Planning ahead can save you a lot of money.

On day 4, you are going to start with what you already have in your kitchen to plan a day’s worth of meals to avoid the 5 p.m. panic of “what’s for supper” !

DAY 5

Develop a Can-Do Attitude - Mindset is a buzzword today! However, learning new skills and changing your habits can be hard!

I will help you overcome the “I can’t” and “it is too complicated” thoughts that you have. You can learn to be self-sufficient and become less dependent on the grocery store one step at a time. Soon you will be saying, “Look what I grew”, “Look what I made” while saving money at the same time!
